Don’t give me a lecture
Or read me a scripture
Don’t tell me what to believe
For as long as I live

Don’t try to play with my mind
You might not like what you find
Don’t give me your words of wisdom
That you pick at random

Tell me what you feel
Tell me what you will
Tell me of yourself
Not from the book on the shelf

Tell me that you faith
Has shaken doubt’s wraith
But no scripture
No lecture
